Born into a family of accomplished musicians, Braud is the grandson of legendary New Orleans trumpeter John "Picket" Brunious, Sr. and the nephew of trumpeters Wendell and John Brunious, Jr. This rich lineage deeply influenced his musical journey, inspiring him to continue the family tradition.
Braud's career began in the early 1990s, when he quickly established himself as a formidable presence in the New Orleans jazz scene. He has performed with numerous prominent groups, including the Olympia Brass Band, the Treme Brass Band, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, where he eventually took on the role of bandleader. As the leader of Preservation Hall, Braud not only preserved the classic sounds of New Orleans jazz but also infused them with his unique style, helping to keep the genre vibrant and relevant for contemporary audiences.
In addition to his work with Preservation Hall, Mark Braud has played with an array of distinguished musicians and ensembles, such as Harry Connick Jr., and Dr. John.
